Spelling News
This term in
Year One the students will begin learning spelling words as part of weekly
homework tasks. The words given are determined
by the results of a pretest given each Monday. To help your child learn these
words, we suggest you use the “Look, Say, Trace, Cover, Write, Check” spelling
method. This is a method the students have
used previously at school during literacy lessons and is the method suggested in
the student’s spelling textbook. Spelling words will be tested each Friday.
Look – Look at the word
Say – Say the word out loud
Trace – Trace the word with your finger
Cover – Cover the word so that you cannot see it
Write – Write the word trying to remember what it looked like and how it
sounded
Check – Check to see if it is correct.
Write the word correctly if you made any mistakes.
